I had always felt very fortunate because despite needing dialysis for my kidney disease I was able to live a pretty full life and be socially active. When my congestive heart failure caused me to become debilitated I had to be hospitalized. I was anemic, needed oxygen therapy and my doctor thought that a period of rehabilitation therapy was in order.
I chose Collingswood because my same nephrologist could continue to care for me while I was there. I used Collingswood’s dialysis center and received both physical and occupational therapy. One of the first things that Collingwood’s respiratory therapist helped me accomplish was to get off the oxygen.
My progress was pretty amazing. In less than 6 weeks I was back on my feet again and starting to make plans for the Fall. The staff at Collingswood also got me to complete some things I had always intended to get to but just never did like my Advanced Directives. They also helped me tap into some other resources that will be valuable for someone with my chronic illness. My daughter was so happy, too.
