I wanted to make a decision about where I would get therapy before I had hip replacement surgery. I visited Collingwood and spent time chatting with the rehab Director. I told him about an illness I have called glycogen storage disorder. He was very knowledgeable about it and we discussed how it might make my therapy more painful and what could be done about that. I was so impressed that he could describe how we might approach my therapy differently as a result – he even gave me some exercises I could start at home that would help prepare me for the surgery and lead to a better recovery.
Following my admission to Collingswood the whole team of nurses and therapists kept a close watch on my pain. I also could see that my therapy plan was created just for me. I couldn’t believe that I was able to use the step bike but I did every therapy session.
When I arrived at Collingswood after surgery I couldn’t walk. When I left I could! (I stopped back in to see everybody two weeks after I went home to show off how well I was doing!)
